double the fun

Of all the spaces I have been blessed to be a part of this year- these two are definitely most close to my heart! Without disclosing too much private information, these two gems of human beings (6 yrs and 11 yrs old) haven’t got to put their roots into a bedroom in a couple years… Between social media, my house, and my other clients projects, they have been frequently exposed to different styles and spaces- and have many times commented about which aspects they would include in their own rooms one day. Although we (the whole family) had been thinking and dreaming about this day for years, it didn’t make sense to transform their rooms- till now…

A few months ago the girls mom (and my beloved sister in law/ best friend) and I talked, and she decided that they needed and deserved to finally have these rooms done! I had sent a mood board and selections guide back in April and many of the items were starting to get back ordered; so we pulled the trigger and started ordering- with the goal of a Christmas gift install.

Financially and physically, the whole family pitched in… We only had 3 days and 3 nights that the girls were staying at their dad’s house, so we had to work FAST. The girls grandfather did all of the painting and labor- Grandma kept my children  (so I could do my thing!) And my sister and brother in law helped paint, put together furniture, and move ALL THE THINGS.

Also- me always making things more “fun” (and complicated), I asked my father in law to do board and batten wall paneling for the pink wall- do a diagonal accent wall- and paint the ceiling of the other room… Oh and can we try to do a scalp trim? NBD… never done it before but we can do it right? Needless to say we were shooting for the moon in this short amount of time, but the payoff was invaluable.

For Giulia (11 yr old) - she had told me she wanted a pink, black, and white room a while back, but also wanted it to be boho. Incorporating these colors and vibe wasn’t as strait forward as I would have preferred, but I think in the end we pulled it off. These Pinterest photos were my inspiration.

We ended up getting this amazing neon sign from Sketch&Etch

I had this great pink chair from world market, and the desk was already her’s.

My “go-to” for boho chic on the cheap- is always Urban Outfitters. The Bed, Floor Mirror, Heart Shape Mirror, and Crosby Record Player are all found at UO.

The wall hang is Amazon ($20!), Bedding is Casa Luna forTarget, the toss pillows are H&M, and the nightstand and wall shelves are IKEA.

For Sophia’s room- she wanted to keep her bunk beds, so that was easy budget wise. She’s not a typical “girly girl” and says the color pink “hurts her eyes” (don’t you just love her!? She makes us all laugh), so I came up with this sea foam and ochre concept).

She loves anything space and superhero. So at the risk of getting “theme-y” (YUCK!), I added subtle pops of her favorite things in this solar system poster by ETSY and super hero artwork also ETSY

The MIFFY lamp is just EVERYTHING too. And on top of this amazing IKEA (link) dresser- that side detail just makes me SO happy… I recently used it in another boy’s room that had the same worst of room entry. If you have to walk into a piece of furniture, lets make it a goodie.

And can we please just take a moment to talk about this scallop trim!? Im OBSESSED with how it turned out and was literally so easy! I followed this tutorial by BrePurposed and it was truly a breeze. Thanks girl! Your guidance truly made this room!

Her fun bedding and toss pillows are all H&M. Drapes are Overstock and not pictured is this amazing hanging chair we found for a killer deal on Amazon..

The light fixture I spray painted this IKEA light fixture and its one of my favorite parts of the room.

I often think that clients get overwhelmed by the scale of work or cost associated with their dream spaces and become paralyzed. I GET IT! Trust me- there is a reason why I have aa job, its a lot. BUT- you can do it! Make a plan, make a vision board, make a list of everything you need for the space and start ticking things off the list till it’s done. Please DO NOT roam the isles of Ta*get grabbing things hoping it all goes together. This is how we waste our money and end up with nothing. Too harsh? Maybe, I do it too, but it’s true.

Real talk- 2021 isn’t off to a great start, but if there’s anything we’ve learned from 2020, its that even the worst seasons can reveal moments of significant beauty. This was one of mine from 2020. Let's be on the lookout for the good this year.
