renovation hell to heaven

“A man travels the world over in search of what he needs- and returned home to find it.”

What to say about this amazing master retreat! My poor clients went through the WRINGER in their desire to transform their master suite.

They have this amazing mid century home that was renovated by some “do-it-yourselfers” several years go. This has resulted in some big headaches, and lessons in persistence and patience.

Im pretty sure my clients have reached sainthood in their patience at this point…

Before we started to work together they had suffered 2 internal floods, wall rot, a mold invasion, and a GC going MIA and stealing $10K.

These people DESERVED a special place to call their own.

Before…

So where did we start? Well… they loving referred to the previous version of their master bedroom as the frat house. Their words not mine- but I understood where they got it from. And ultimately it just didn’t reflect the evolved people that they are now. And isn’t that what we all want? Our spaces to reflect the people we are?

This was the first day of demo with our original contractor…

After.

When we first met, we talked about how they wanted to FEEL in the space. As some of the most well traveled people i’ve met- they were no stranger to beautiful hotels, and truly wanted the space to feel like the epitome of hotel luxury.

Its the simple yet thoughtful things like bedside wired sconces and these beautiful Buster and Punch light switches that really bring the feeling of luxury.

Layers of beautiful bedding don’t have to be high price. I chose this linen set from Amazon for a steel! And although they’re now sold out, there are lots of alternative options (linked below).

Original Furniture Layout

So spacing… this was something that was probably trickiest for my client to envision because the layout of the room is like this… They had previously had the bed here (pink lines).

Good layout and scale is literally EVERYTHING- so changing things up to this format was key.

Speaking of spacing, I didn’t want the space to feel overcrowded, but my clients needed more clothing storage, so one of my favorite work arounds is using smaller scale dressers as night stands. It creates a feeling of luxury and is VERY “hotel- like”. Is this making sense?!

Adjusted Layout

Similarly- having a separate sitting area falls in line with this concept. Hotel comfort meets chic luxury.

My client swears this is where you can find her in her home. Peaceful and rejuvenating.

And can we please take pause for this light fixture!? I LOVEEEEEE it. There are some luxury brands that carry a version, but we were able to snag this beauty from amazon for a steal!

Can you

believe this used to be an exterior door!? I wanted to do these recessed shelves since the beginning and they really make the space feel so intentional and well thought out.

Incorporating greenery, drapes, and a great grounding rug and BAM- you’ve got yourself a luxury retreat…

I cant close without giving special attention to this art from Juniper Print Shop. They're incredible and I literally use them ALL THE TIME for good reason.
