A Tale of Two Vanities…
This master bathroom renovation started as a late 90’s disaster that had plagued the eyeballs of my design savvy client for far too long. After years of putting everyone else’s priorities first, her and her husband finally decided to renovate their master bath and bedroom.
In true 90’s fashion, 1/3 of the bathroom floor square footage was overtaken by a giant oval bathtub with steps to enter. And the SHOWER… pause for impact. It was SMALL, 2’ x 3’ at best, and a long vanity with two poorly placed sinks. At 6’2” I was SHOCKED that her husband was able to use this day after day.. They had delt with water intrusion issues, which left them with drywall patches and overall an esthetic that didn’t align with their goals.
As a longtime client, I was tickled that I was told to do “whatever I want” within their allotted budget. And this is what happened…
Although I was thrilled to let my creative juices flow, I went to the drawling board keeping in mind the esthetic of the whole home, timeless style, and on budget choices. We had a nice budget to work with, but there is definitely a balance to splurge and save items.
One of my favorite ways we saved, was on these amazing vanities. They were not custom. They’re a stocked item that we switched up the hardware and had a custom stone top made by the incredible local artisans at AA Tile and Stone. They were truly a joy to work with and I cannot wait to bring them my crazy ideas time and time again.
Another cost saver are these great mirrors. I sourced from OVERSTOCK for a killer deal.
Same for the wall sconces and pendants- both sourced from Wayfair at major discount.
NOT a discount item, but worth EVERY PENNY was this amazing Zellige tile made by Riad Tile in Southlake Texas. I chose to use the warmer, natural white color.
For the floors, I would have loved to use a honed limestone, but with budget in mind, chose this gorgeous Matte Porcelain from Tilebar. They are just as stunning in person as they look in the photos, and for just a fraction of the cost.
Lighting was another “save category” and then we splurged on the plumbing fixtures and quality of craftsmanship in our contractors in the renovation.
I cannot stress the importance of NEVER HIRING YOUR LOWEST BID. Trust me, I know its tempting, but you get what you pay for. I am honored to work with my local dream team almost exclusively.
I absolutely love how this special space turned out. Its so exciting watching it transform from paper to real life, and am again honored to be included in this special space.
